Principal's Corner

Dear SBS Families,
It won’t be long until our school doors open for the 2014-2015 school year.  It is going to be a year of many blessings for St. Bernadette School as we welcome over 100 new students.  In these days of diminishing enrollment for many Catholic Schools it is inspiring to watch our numbers climb.
Back to School Night – Parents of students in grades K-8 are invited to join us at 7:00 p.m. in O’Brien Hall, on September 9th to find out exciting information about our goals and plans for this year.  This will be followed by the opportunity to meet your child’s teacher in their classroom.
Tuition  - Payments must be current in order for students to be admitted to school on September 3rd.  Please contact Bob Helmig, in the rectory, with any questions or concerns (rhelmig@stbl.org).
CHOP Parkway Run:  Please see the letter from the Hennessy Family regarding an event to support CHOP.  We are very grateful that Lizzy is responding well to treatment and will be returning to school in September.  Please continue to remember her in your prayers.
 Lunch Monitors:
St. Bernadette School is dependent on parent help with supervision at lunch time.  The stipend for helping with this duty is $10 per day.  Lunch monitors arrive at 11:50 and stay until 1:05.  Monitors are either assigned to assist in the cafeteria or with outside duty.  Help will be needed beginning on September 3rd.  If you are interested, please contact Mrs. Todd (dtodd@stbl.org) in the School Office.
Parents who wish to assist with lunch duty must have their clearances in order as well as proof of participation at one of the Virtus training classes.  Please provide proof of clearances to the school office.  These clearances include:  PA Criminal Record Check, PA Childabuse Check, FBI Fingerprinting, attendance at Safe Environment Training.  Child abuse and Criminal Record Check Clearances are only valid for 5 years.
Sundaes on Sunday:  On Sunday, September 7th Home and School will be sponsoring a welcome back event for all new and returning families.  This will be a great opportunity to meet some new friends and reconnect with familiar faces.  We will gather in O’Brien Hall at noon.
Lunch Fees: $45.00 is due by September 5th for every full day student from preschool – 8th grade to cover the cost of lunch monitors.
Teacher Websites:  By September 3rd each teacher will have their web page up and current.  These may be accessed through our school website st-bernadette.org, and then under the Academics Section.
Pretzels:  Pretzels will be sold this year for $.35.  Please use the order form.  Orders for the year are due September 12th.
Milk Order Forms:  Milk orders are due by September 12th.   Please be very careful when ordering since there are 2 forms.  One form is for ordering milk three days a week, and the other is for ordering milk five days a week.
Davenmark Lunches – The September lunch menu and order form are under Documents.  Hot lunch will begin September 8th.  Orders must be placed a week in advance.  Students are to bring their lunch with them September 3rd – 5th.
8th Grade Picture:  In keeping with tradition, the 8th grade class will have their picture taken at 8:10 AM on September 3rd.  The students will be taken to their classroom at 8:00 in order to leave their school bags, etc. in the classroom.  They will return to the Bond Avenue steps at 8:10 to have their class picture taken.  Feel free to bring your cameras!
Photography Fundraiser:  Information about a fundraiser being sponsored by a school parent can be found under Documents.
As always, my door is open to each and everyone of you.  Please feel free to stop by to ask any questions or share concerns.  I am here to be of service to you and provide the best possible education to your children in a safe, Faith filled environment.  Be assured of my prayers, especially as enter into this final week of summer.
God bless you,
Mrs. Glennon
